A technical and mathematical review of Aristocrat Gaming's Australian Hold & Spin family — the 2023 trademark and the 2024 launch, six titles in four Australian builds on the ACT's register, Thunder Empire X and MultiLink, the North American release on The Baron Portrait, every rule of a 1¢ Inca Diamonds machine read off its own help screens, the pay table, cash ladder and jackpots priced in bets, a free-games menu that sells five risks at one return, Hold & Spin Again's double payment, and a Thunderrrr bar whose printed rules give it no trigger.

Executive summary

Thunder Empire is an Australian Hold & Spin family that Aristocrat took to North America in 2026. Aristocrat filed the name as an Australian trademark on July 3, 2023; The Drop places the first showing at the Australasian Gaming Expo in August 2024 and reported Aristocrat "ending 2024 with the new Thunder Empire Link and SAP game family" on the MarsX cabinet; the North American release, datelined May 19, 2026, put four titles "exclusively" on The Baron Portrait, and Mohegan Sun opened them on June 30, 2026. Aristocrat's FY25 results name it: "The strong performance of Thunder Empire and Dragon Link, released on MarsX cabinet," "contributed to its continued scaling" — the MarsX cabinet's, on this volume's reading. Kurt Gissane, Aristocrat Gaming's chief revenue officer, calls it "a game that's come out of our Australian game studio"; its successor family, Dragon Empire, debuted at the expo in August 2026.

Six titles run in four Australian builds and two North American ones. The ACT's register approves King Samurai, Magic Emperor, Mongolian Empress and Inca Diamonds as Link games in November 2024, all but Mongolian Empress under names carrying "(1 Link + 1 iSAP)," and as stand-alone games in February 2025; a second generation, Thunder Empire X Link, from September 2025 to June 2026, every title twice, on the Standard Link system and on MultiLink; and two titles not on record outside Australia and New Zealand, Amazon Hearts and Fire Legend — 24 specification numbers in all, none with a return (Table 1.1, §6). North America has the four original titles in a low-denomination build with "an SSP jackpot that starts at $10,000" and a mid-denomination build with "an SSP/SAP jackpot that starts at $50,000"; no Thunder Empire source spells out "SSP"; trade reports of Aristocrat's 2022 Dollar Storm give "Single Site Progressive (SSP)," and reading the term the same way here is this volume's inference.

The rules come from the machine's own help screens, filmed by the author. On October 13, 2026 the author paged through every help screen of a 1¢ Inca Diamonds machine on a casino floor in western North Dakota, on the Fort Berthold Reservation of the Three Affiliated Tribes (MHA Nation), as the file's position stamp places it (inference), and this volume reads them frame by frame. The game is 5 reels by 3 rows on " LINES OR 100 LINES"; six or more cash symbols and lightning overlays start Hold & Spin; every open position then spins two overlapping reels; a cash symbol under an overlay turns pink; and six or more pinks at the end of the feature award Hold & Spin Again, with the pinks held, as often as the count is met.

Priced in bets, the pay table is modest and the cash ladder runs to 500 times. Five jaguars, the top line pay, return 3× the bet on 50 lines and 1.5× on 100; five scatters pay 100×; a screen full of jaguars and wilds pays 150× at either line count. The cash symbols carry twelve values from 1× to 500× the bet, identical at 50 and 100 lines, with at most one of the top three on screen; the Mini and Minor are fixed at 1,000 and 5,000 credits, 20× and 100× the 50credit minimum but only 10× and 50× the filmed 100-credit bet.

The jackpots are capped, and the Major is capped under the old tax line. At 1¢ the stand-alone Major stops at $1,199.00, a dollar under the $1,200 slot reporting line that applied through 2025, and the linked Grand at $20,000.00, twice the release's $10,000 start; once a ceiling is reached, contributions pass to "SUBSEQUENT JACKPOT PROGRESSIVES". Since January 1, 2026 the reporting line has been $2,000, and the casino's own setting hand-pays "Any wins greater than or equal to $1999.99". The first dated wins on record are four 1¢ jackpots of $10,177 to $11,566 on Barona Resort & Casino's winners page, from August 18 to September 29, 2026; the page names no level, and the amounts fit the low build's Grand (inference; §7.6). The machine says "AN INCREASE IN WAGER PROPORTIONALLY INCREASES ODDS OF WINNING PROGRESSIVE JACKPOTS," which makes the jackpots' return per dollar bet the same at every bet.

The free-games menu sells five risks at one return. Inca Diamonds and King Samurai offer 13 free games at ×2, ×3 or ×5 down to 5 at ×10, ×15 or ×20, or Mystery Choice, and the screen says "RETURN TO PLAYER FOR ALL FREE GAMES FEATURES IS THE SAME." Taking each option's multipliers as equally likely, which the screen does not say, the options are unequal — games times the mean multiplier rises from 43.3 to 75 — so the equality must come from the different reel strips the screen says each choice uses or from multiplier weights that differ by option (this volume's reading): the menu sells variance, as Aristocrat's "choose your own volatility" says.

Hold & Spin Again, on this volume's reading of the screens, pays its held prizes twice. No screen says so in so many words. Prizes are paid at the end of Hold & Spin, the pinks are held into Hold & Spin Again, and every prize on screen is paid again at its end; fifteen pinks pay the current Grand and then a second Grand at its reset value.

No return, hit frequency or volatility is published for any build. Aristocrat prints none, the ACT prints none, no other regulator or operator list naming the game was found, and the North Dakota compact defers to "the par sheets provided by the manufacturer"; the only figures in circulation, "RTP 95–97%" and ".66%," are affiliate sites', on pages that misdescribe the game.

The Thunderrrr bar fills in plain view, and nothing printed says it means anything. The help screen says the "THUNDERRRR BAR OVER REEL WINDOW COLLECTS [CASH] AND [BOLT] LANDING DURING BOUGHT GAME AND FREE GAMES FEATURE" and "RESETS AFTER THE HOLD & SPIN FEATURE OR HOLD & SPIN AGAIN FEATURE IS COMPLETED," and states no threshold, trigger or saving rule; on the evidence it is a record of elapsed play, perceived progression rather than state (Appendix C). Aristocrat's own sales executive says the U.S. game adds "that metamorphic bar that they're not able to offer in Australia," and Australia's standard bars a display that suggests a feature is coming while "having no association to when a feature" "will actually occur" (this volume's reading of the two together). The Grand and Major meters are the only displays that carry value from one player to the next; the Mini and Minor are fixed amounts, not meters.

What the volume covers

Section 1 is the orientation: six titles in six builds and the companies and regulators behind them. Here a build is one configuration of the game on the record; CASH is the gold cash symbol, BOLT the empty lightning frame that lands over it, and PINK a cash symbol under a BOLT — this volume's names, because the screens print pictures, not names; and a value written as a multiple, such as 15×, is that value divided by the total bet. Section 2 is the dated record from the 2023 trademark to Dragon Empire; Section 3 the cabinets; Section 4 every rule on the machine's screens; Section 5 the mathematics — the pay table, the cash ladder and the jackpots in bets, the free-games menu, Hold & Spin Again's double payment, and a register of bad figures; Section 6 the titles and builds. Sections 7 to 10 cover the jackpots, the bets, the market and the law. Appendix A grades the sources, Appendix B shows every calculation, and Appendix C classifies every display that looks like progress.
