Executive summary

Rakin' Bacon! is AGS's flagship, and it is younger than most sources say. The game went into use on October 9, 2018, on the Orion Portrait cabinet — the first-use date AGS swore to in its trademark filings, and the year AGS itself gives: "the game debuted in 2018." The July 2, 2016 date that circulates on game databases has no first-party support and is registered as an error. In eight years the franchise has grown to fifteen titles by AGS's count and twenty by this volume's, has served as the launch title for six AGS cabinets, and has shipped about 20,000 games by AGS's latest figure — while AGS's own franchise page says 5,500. The conflict is set out, not resolved.

The paytable is priced in credits at an 88-credit base bet, and that one convention explains most of the bad numbers. AGS states it on its Odyssey and Sahara rules: "Values shown for a bet of 88." Read against it, the top symbol pays 1,000 credits, 11.36 times the bet, and the scatter's 440, 880 and 4,400 credits are 5, 10 and 50 times the bet — not the 440× to 4,400× that databases print. AGS's reference bet range of 0.88 to 8.80 is the same 88 credits at multipliers from 1 to 10, and the Odyssey cabinet's 440- and 880-credit maximum bets are five and ten times 88.

The mathematics belongs to AGS's house chassis, not to the pig. Rakin' Bacon!'s online build carries AGS build ID 1800006; Fu Nan Fu Nu is 1800005 and Olympus Strikes 1800007. All three rules files were created on January 7, 2019, and all three specification sheets show the same 95.89% return, High volatility, 0.88–8.80 bet range and 243-to-3,125-way layout. The two games AGS's annual reports named as the Orion Portrait's headliners carry one set of visible math in two costumes. The newest mainline title repeats the pattern: Fu Zhu Bao Bao runs AGS's Triple Coin Treasures chassis, with the same return menu, prize bands and features as Fu Long Bao Bao and Fu Feng Bao Bao.

There is no single return figure: AGS publishes 35 settings on eleven builds, from 84.10% to 96.44%. Pirate Plunder alone carries seven settings across 10.80 points; the Original carries one, 95.89%; the newest build, Triple Oink Explosion Blastin' Hogs, sets the franchise high at 96.44%.20,29,30 On land, trade-press specification blocks publish four ranges — Odyssey 85.97–95.00%, Link Shamrock 86.07–92.13%, Triple Oink Soda Fountain Fortunes 87.18–93.54% and Hogger Lager 86.16–94.19% — with hit frequencies between 27.17% and about 30%.21,31,32,33 The franchise's instant feature is a bonus purchase sold on land cabinets, and it is sold without a published price. Triple Oink Soda Fountain Fortunes lets a cabinet player "skip the primary-game reel-spinning and go directly to the bonus, paying for one, two or all three enhancements"; AGS's trade listings give Fu Zhu Bao Bao's land versions an Instant Bonus into its Mega Pick, while the online rules for both titles contain no purchase at all. Everything else a player might call instant is an in-feature collect — Link Shamrock's gold pigs, Cash Combo's blue symbol — or a random award, such as the wild that "may award" the pick. AGS's instant-win line, UltraTap, has no Rakin' Bacon title, though Olympus Strikes, the Original's math twin, has one; no scratch or iLottery product was found.

Jackpots are progressive on the floor and static online, and the ladder is written in credits. Every one of AGS's eleven online specification sheets tags the jackpot "Static." On land the pick's four tiers reset at 1,000, 2,500, 80,000 and 1,000,000 credits — $10, $25, $800 and $10,000 at a penny — a ladder that appears both in AGS's Deluxe boost rules and in a denomination-by-denomination capture of the Original. Operators can pool the Original's meters on AGS's Xtreme Jackpots link, and the Jackpots Bonus Wheel joined AGS's first multi-property So Hot Grand link, across eight Station Casinos properties, in October 2025. The one regulator-published payout is a $52,233.69 penny jackpot at Borgata on April 30, 2022. Those land meters are the franchise's only documented true persistent state: the golden pig that swells above the reels is perceived progression, growing "as time goes on without a Jackpot feature" beside a pick that AGS's rules leave to a wild that "may award" it.

The franchise runs in almost every channel AGS sells. It is Class III on commercial and tribal floors; Class II for Deluxe, Odyssey and Sahara, Link Shamrock and Fu Zhu Bao Bao; historical horse racing for the Original and Deluxe; regulated online play from New Jersey in 2019 to Alberta and the United Kingdom by 2026; and a Glō cabinet pair due at G2E on September 28, 2026. The return figures in Section 5 describe the online builds and four cabinets; none of them transfers to a bingo or pari-mutuel build.

What the volume covers

Section 1 is the orientation: this franchise is not one game but ten structurally different math chassis wearing one mascot, and almost every wrong statement about it comes from treating them as interchangeable. Sections 2 and 3 cover AGS from 2005 to 2026, the dating of the original game and the cabinets. Section 4 is the mechanical core, including the instant and buy features the franchise does and does not have. Section 5 is the mathematics — the 88-credit convention, the published paytables, the house chassis, the return menus, the land specification blocks and a register of the bad figures in circulation. Section 6 is the census of every title, configuration and filed mark. Sections 7 through 10 cover jackpots and linkage, bet configuration, market position and the regulatory channels, where the payback mathematics works on a different basis. Appendix A grades every source; Appendix B shows every calculation so it can be checked rather than trusted; Appendix C is the persistent-state and advantage-play register.
